Frequently asked questions

Getting to Church

Where can I find you?

We are located in Merley, Poole. You can find us by using our postcode (BH21 1SN) in your Sat Nav. There are bus stops nearby as well. If transport is a problem for you, please let us know and we will try and help in anyway we can.

Is there parking?

Yes! We have a car park attached to the church. If the car park is full you, will be able to park nearby and walk. However, please be considerate of the local residents. We also have a limited number of disabled parking spots. Our parking attendants can help you find a car parking spot upon arrival. We would encourage anyone living in Merley to walk to church as not only does it save car parking spaces for those living further away, but the environment too.

What time does Church start?

We normally have two services, 9:00am and 11:00am, however, during the summer season we move to one 10am, all-age service. You may wish to get here slightly early in order to find a seat. We also have a 6:00pm term-time meeting called Dwell. Dwell is an open time of worship and prayer, if you want to spend some time listening to God, Dwell is perfect for that.

What should I do when I arrive?

Mention to one of our Welcome Team that you are new and they will happily show you to your seat. If you're comfortable with meeting new people, they may introduce you to a couple of other people who come along to the church.

What is a service like?

What can I expect a service at the Lantern to be like?

Services at the Lantern are a lot of fun! They always involve a time of singing, a short talk, prayers (talking and listening to God) and lots of other exciting elements. You can participate as much or as little as you want to. If you just want to come and enjoy meeting with God or just learn a little bit more about Him, then we would love to see you there.

Will I have to bring anything?

At the Lantern, we want you to feel comfortable coming as you are. It is helpful to bring a Bible; however, most readings will be projected on a screen. If you do not have a Bible, we would love to provide you with one!

Is there a dress code?

Definitely not. Come dressed in what you feel comfortable, be that a suit and tie or shorts and flip-flops. Fancy dress costumes are also welcome!

Do I have to sing?

We believe that meeting with God through worship is important. One of the ways we do this is through musical worship but there is no expectation for you to sing at all. If you would just prefer to listen to the music and reflect, then that's absolutely fine.

Is there children's and youth work during the service?

Yes there is! Our children and youth stay in the service during a portion of the musical worship and are then brought from the church to their group by our volunteers. Our children's volunteers can be easily recognised by their blue t-shirts. Feel free to ask them any questions before or during the service. If you have any other questions regarding the children's and youth work, contact: kids@thelanternchurch.org
