Our Christmas Initiatives
We’re going to give each child at Merley First School the gift of a Fairtrade Advent calendar which comes with a Christmas story activity book. We will also be giving a handwritten message to each parent and recognising all the lovely Staff at the School with a small gift. We hope this project will show our love and care at a time when some will, without doubt, be facing challenges arising from the COVID situation. To provide for the 300 students, plus school staff, we estimate the total cost of this project to be £1500.
If this is a project you would like to support financially, Cash or cheque can be posted into the Lantern Hub external post box (with the purpose of the funds written on the envelope!) or given to Barbara and Bill Jaggs or Tony and Roz Hanson.
If you prefer to contribute via BACS theses are the details:
The Lantern Church, Sort Code: 09-02-22, Account Number: 10775213
And add ‘Advent Calendars’ reference to your payment.
Christmas in a Box
Working alongside the Wimborne Food Bank and Safe Families we will be putting together
‘Christmas in a Box’ for families who are going to be particularly struggling this year, to help take the strain off and help them celebrate Christmas! We would love your help to fill them.
We are going to be filling up 3 boxes for local 'Safe families' households. If you would like to contribute to these boxes then please select which products you'd like to contribute HERE and drop them into the Lantern Hub during the week by Wednesday 16th December.
If you would like to take on the project of filling a hamper for the food bank whether that's on your own or within a Life Group or small group we would love you to fill a hamper with:
New gifts, crafts, games, books or toys in great condition (wrapped and clearly marked whether they are suitable for boy/girl/either & rough age range)
Christmas related items: mince Pies, chocolate coins, tubs of chocolates, tubs of savoury snacks, crisps, Christmas pudding, stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy, boxes/tins of chocolate biscuits or shortbread (all with good use by dates & in strong packaging)
Once you have created your hampers please drop them in to The Lantern Hub.
We would love to fill our community with hand knitted Christmas Angels, which will be given out at various locations in the community, the School gates and the shopping precinct. People will be able to take the angels and give as gifts to loved ones or neighbours who they know maybe lonely and in need of some hope and wonder during this time. If you are interested in knitting some angels for us to bless our community with, we would love your help! There is a pattern HERE, which can be knitted in any colours! These angels will need to be dropped off at the Lantern Hub by Wednesday 2nd of December.
No one should need to feel alone this Christmas Day. Do you have ‘room at the table’ this Christmas Day? Are you alone, or is someone else you know, or even a couple of people who might appreciate an invitation to celebrate the Hope and Wonder of Christmas with others? (Some will understandably feel they can’t take this risk, but someone out there might jump at the chance, with appropriate protections taking place - and we will naturally need to follow all government guidelines at the time) Do get in touch if this is something you are interested in.
