The New Lantern Project

The New Lantern Project is a project aiming to update & refurbish the Lantern.  There has been a long period of exploration & work to try to come up with a scheme that can best meet the needs of the church & enable us to reach out even more effectively to the local community of Merley & beyond.  

Obviously the final target of £350K is a HUGE step of faith but we believe it’s the right time to go for it as a church & that the money is there in the people of God plus providing fundraising opportunities & grants.  It’s going to be great seeing God do some remarkable things amongst us.   So what’s happening now?

In early March we had our initial prayer & gift weekend & there was an absolutely incredible response and the current figure stands at over £170K (over half the target figure).  As a result of this we are in the process of applying for planning permission, seeking grants & looking at a number of fund-raising initiatives for the summer.  Our aim is to begin doing some of the work in summer 2012.  If anyone would still like to give towards this exciting adventure please contact Tony Rawlins (treasurer) via the office on 01202 887733.
